Becoming a part of an extracurricular activity can help you meet new people that have the same interests as you. This can help you create a bond with them, and develop more friendships since you will all have something in common. It will also help improve some social skills, since you will be interacting with a bunch of people. You can create a family with all of them, and have memories that will be with you forever.
Another reason to join an extracurricular is that you can get better at what you are passionate about. You will be surrounded by people who enjoy the same activity you do, and they can help give you some tips. You never know, changing something as simple as your technique in a sport can be what makes everything click, so that you can become even better. I know whenever I swim, I am always being pushed by my teammates to go even faster. This helps work my endurance, so that I don’t get tired too quickly in the middle of a race.
Extracurricular activities can help you get rid of the stress of homework, so that you can focus on what you love doing. They can help you take your mind off that essay that’s due next week, or that huge math assignment you only have a couple of days to complete. When you are surrounded by people you love being around, doing what makes you happy, you don’t have to think about anything that’s stressful. You can let all of your anxiety and worry go, which will be beneficial for your health. Too much stress and anxiety is not good for the body, so why not get rid of all of that by joining an extracurricular? Being in an extracurricular activity can also help improve grades, since it teaches time management, organizational skills, and can help boost self-esteem.
And finally, extracurricular activities look great on college applications. They are always looking for people who are involved, whether it be on or off campus. They are searching for people who do activities that don’t involve sitting at home, watching Netflix all day. Who knows, that one club you are in could be the deciding factor on if you will be accepted into the college of your dreams. Being involved in extracurriculars helps colleges understand your personality, and also helps them see what activities you are interested in. Sure, test scores are great, but they want to know who you are outside of that.
Now, go join that extracurricular activity. Whether it be basketball, soccer, theatre, band, etc., do something that you love to do. These memories, of all of the fun you had with your friends, will stick with you for years. Don’t let high school fly by without trying something new. Go join that extracurricular activity, because it will be the best decision you have ever made.
