Many may be shocked to hear that this will be the last movie in the series. Considering the success of the franchise though, this could mean the start of a new storyline.
The first Star Wars movie came out back in 1980, and grossed $775.4 million dollars in terms of box office. Correspondingly, the popularity of the franchise easily explains the now 9 movies that have been made to feature in the series. In addition, this popularity has set the value of the Star Wars franchise at around $65 billion dollars.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be sure to feature violence and tragedy, as this is the last movie to be featured in the series. With that being said, we can definitely expect some characters to finally say goodbye, as the movie will settle things out with our antagonist, Emperor Palpantine. This may come as a shock, as fans may have expected Kylo Ren to be our main antagonist. Instead, Kylo Ren will be teaming up with Rey, and the odd pair will work to defeat Palpatine. With the topic of our featured characters, the audience may be wondering what will happen with the sudden death of Carrie Fisher, who plays Princess Leia. Princess Leia has been reported to be featured in the upcoming movie though, and this has been rumored to be done with unused footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The director, J.J. Abrams, has assured fans that Princess Leia will continue to be at the heart of the story.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to come out December 20th of this year. The movie was originally announced to come out May 24th of this year, but was pushed back to let the live action Aladdin movie feature instead. The film will also appear on Disney+ in 2020, a subscription service owned by Disney. For those super dedicated and crazed fans, some theaters will be featuring a Star Wars marathon, which includes all nine movies in the series adding up to a total of 27 hours and 21 minutes of pure Star Wars action. Also allowing those dedicated fans to see the ninth movie a full hour before anyone else.
In conclusion, watching Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a must because it is the last film to be featured in the series, which may not seem as big of a deal to some people, but for some of the older fans who grew up with this series it is everything. Fans will get to see beloved Princess Leia make an appearance, and see the strange teamwork of our old antagonist, Kylo Ren, and Rey. In addition, we’ll see who reigns victorious as both fans and characters face Emperor Palpatine.
